Kyle Calder, a forward who appeared in 32 regular season and playoff games with the Detroit Red Wings in 2007 after being acquired at the trade deadline in exchange for Jason Williams, died Monday at age 47. During his time in Detroit, Calder recorded five goals and nine assists in 19 regular season games and one assist in 13 playoff games before signing with the Los Angeles Kings that offseason. The NHL Alumni Association announced his passing and noted his career spanned five NHL teams with 114 goals and 180 assists total.

I think many fans feel the same way - it's amazing how some players can make a lasting impact on our fandom, even if it's just for a brief period of time like Calder did with us in '07. It says a lot about his game and personality that he's still remembered fondly by many WW fans.

I think you're hitting on something there, Rusty - Calder's time with the Wings may have been brief, but he'll be remembered for his feistiness and willingness to drop the gloves. That kind of grit can leave a lasting impression, even on a team that wasn't exactly known for its toughness back then.
