Well now, that's an interesting swap for Buffalo - they're basically saying this Kesselring kid has got some real potential if he can put it together, but they weren't willing to bet their own future assets on it. Kind of a low-risk move for whoever gets him, I suppose.
This is a classic salary cap dump disguised as a prospect exchange - Kesselring has decent ceiling as a depth defenseman but his floor is pretty concerning given the limited sample size, and swapping first rounders just feels like both teams are kicking the can down the road.

I think it's unfair to say Buffalo wasn't willing to bet on Kesselring when they're only one year removed from a playoff appearance and have some talented young players coming up. That could be a smart move by Shanahan to free up cap space.

i think thats a pretty weak excuse for buffalo they been tankin and werent lookin to make any deep runs anytime soon. @danM88 prolly nailed it with cap dump label
